The U.S. Department of Justice intends to establish a unit to combat criminal attacks on the crypto market. This was reported to WSJ by Deputy Attorney General L. Monaco.
The post of head of the new unit will take assistant attorney general K. Polit. The new department will investigate crimes of cryptocurrency exchanges and related money transfer services. In addition, the unit will track and recover digital assets lost due to extortion or fraud.
L. Monaco on this occasion, noted that with the creation of the new unit, the department's ability to counter cryptocurrency criminals will be significantly expanded. The U.S. Department of Justice boasts of having experience in investigating cryptocurrency crimes. For example, at the end of the summer, L. Harmon, who acted as the operator of the Helix bitcoin mixer, was convicted in the U.S. at the request of the Department.
