Chandigarh is on the brink of a digital transformation with the introduction of a revolutionary mobile app designed to streamline service access across the Union Territory (UT). This ambitious endeavor consolidates over 700 citizen-oriented services, previously scattered across multiple platforms, into a single, user-friendly mobile application. With this development, residents of Chandigarh will no longer need to juggle between various digital interfaces to avail themselves of essential government services.
A Unified Platform for Diverse Services
The upcoming app is set to become a one-stop destination, simplifying how citizens interact with government departments. According to a senior UT official, the primary aim is to bring all departmental services under one umbrella, enhancing the convenience and efficiency of accessing them. “The app is intended to act as a single-window interface for all the services offered by various UT departments, institutions, and organizations,” the official stated.
Streamlined Processes and Features
This groundbreaking platform will do more than streamline service applications. Users will have the ability to pay fees, track application statuses, and download necessary forms and documents all within the app. Furthermore, guidance materials such as ‘how-to-apply’ manuals, workflow procedures, and informative videos will enrich the user experience.
Building on Existing Infrastructure
Already running on a core web-based platform, eservices.chd.gov.in
, which hosts 700 services from 25 departments, the app will mirror this success in the mobile realm. Notably, it integrates 154 unified services provided by the Government of India and 53 related to the UT administration’s single-window system.
Powered by UMANG
The app’s foundation is built upon the UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) platform, developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This strategic decision ensures that Chandigarh’s residents benefit from a secure and efficient service delivery model, similar to what UMANG provides on a national scale.
Emphasizing Inclusivity and Transparency
From applying for residence certificates at the DC Office to managing property taxes via the Municipal Corporation, the app lays out an expansive array of services. In addition to facilitating daily administrative tasks, the app ensures transparency and accountability, empowering citizens with clear timelines and processes for every governmental interaction.
As stated in Times of India, this initiative not only underscores Chandigarh’s commitment to forward-thinking governance but also sets a precedent for other regions aiming to enhance public service delivery. The integration of such a comprehensive digital solution promises to significantly uplift the administrative interface of the region, paving the way for a more connected and efficient future.
