A New Era in Delhi’s Education Landscape

In a groundbreaking move, the Delhi government has unveiled its latest initiative to revolutionize school education by integrating skill-based subjects across 257 more government schools. According to India Today, this expansion aims to equip students with essential twenty-first-century skills, in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Bridging Education and Employability

Through this initiative, over 800 government schools will offer at least one skill-oriented subject, making it compulsory for students in Classes IX and X. The program focuses on preparing students not only for higher education but also for the competitive job market, ensuring they emerge as well-rounded, employable individuals.

Diverse and Innovative Curriculum

The newly introduced curriculum is as diverse as it is forward-thinking. Students will engage in subjects such as Science of Living, which emphasizes emotional and mental well-being through yoga and mindfulness, and Artificial Intelligence, which opens doors to fields like data science and computer science. NEEV, another exciting subject, will introduce students to entrepreneurship, fostering skills like innovation and business planning.

Fostering Responsible Citizens

In a bid to create informed and responsible citizens, the new subject Rashtraneeti will dive into the intricacies of democracy, governance, and policymaking. This comprehensive approach ensures that students are not only knowledgeable but also responsible members of society.

Specialized Streams for a Holistic Education

In addition to core subjects, the Schools of Applied Learning (SoALs) will provide specialized streams such as Fashion Studies, Mechatronics, and Financial Management starting from Class IX. These subjects aim to give students practical industry experience, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.

Significant Investment in Education

This expansive educational reform is supported by a substantial budget allocation of ₹19,291 crore for the 2025–26 fiscal year. The funds will be used to develop new infrastructure, create smart classrooms, and expand entrepreneurial and skill-based programs, ensuring a robust and dynamic learning environment.
