Bengaluru’s Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has unveiled an unprecedented budget for the year 2025-26, marking a monumental 50% increase from the previous fiscal cycle and promising to reshape the cityscape for residents and visitors alike.

A Record-Breaking Outlay

Presented by Dr. Harish Kumar K, Special Commissioner (Finance), in the presence of BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath, the budget outlines a massive Rs. 19,930 crore expenditure. A significant portion of the funding stems from state government grants and includes substantial allocations for property tax collection, e-governance, and innovative infrastructure projects.

Rising Revenue and Digital Innovation

The BBMP anticipates a revenue surge with projected collections of Rs. 5716 crore. Key components of this growth include the successful collection of property tax through initiatives like the One-Time Settlement Scheme and the digitization of khata records. As the largest digital e-khata system in India is implemented, Bengaluru moves closer to becoming a fully connected city.

Urban Development and Infrastructure Leap

The budget prioritizes expansive development projects. Urban vehicular tunnels, elevated corridors, and integrated metro and road flyovers represent a multi-billion rupee investment in transport and connectivity. The BBMP’s adoption of a GIS-based e-khata system ensures precise property management and improved citizen services.

Green Initiatives and Waste Management

Environmental sustainability remains at the forefront, with Rs. 1,400 crore allocated to solid waste management improvements and 97.82 lakh tonnes of legacy waste processing underway. Initiatives under the Brand Bengaluru – Sugama Sanchara Bengaluru focus on enhancing road infrastructure and pedestrian pathways, while Brand Bengaluru- Swachha Bengaluru targets comprehensive waste management strategies.

Social Empowerment and Inclusivity

The budget includes a Rs. 10 crore financial initiative to purchase 500 electric e-autos and provides Rs. 15 crore to distribute electric two-wheelers to working women and disabled persons. Additional funding promotes the welfare of marginalized communities, including comprehensive housing and support schemes for transgender individuals and other vulnerable groups.

Technological Advancements and Transparency

The deployment of AI and mobile applications marks a new era of administrative efficiency and public engagement. E-Khatha integrations, mobile service platforms, and the BBMP-ONE-APP promise to revolutionize civic management, aligning with global smart city benchmarks. Furthermore, a transition to LED lighting is set to significantly reduce the city’s energy expenses.

The BBMP’s commitment to eco-conscious urban progress and socio-economic inclusivity sets a transformative tone for Bengaluru’s future. As stated in Deccan Herald, the city’s strategic direction promises vibrant growth balanced with sustainability and technological innovation.
