Farewell to a Rocky Partnership
The music mogul and television producer 50 Cent has bade farewell to an old acquaintance, as the rapper expressed sentiments of moving on from Starz amidst the network’s ongoing financial troubles. According to Complex, the hip-hop star took to Instagram with a post, shortly thereafter deleted, featuring the company’s declining quarterly figures and a curt goodbye message.
Declining Numbers and a Strained Relationship
It’s been a tough chapter for Starz, with their second quarter of 2025 revealing a notable downturn. Streaming subscriptions slumped to 12.2 million from a previous 13.4 million, while domestic customers slipped by 410,000 to a total of 17.6 million. Revenue took a plunge as well, with overall income dropping to \(319.7 million, resulting in an operational loss of \)27 million, a sharp contrast to the prior year’s positive $10.1 million.
Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch pointed the finger at the underwhelming performance of the BMF series for these figures. Yet, many are eyeing the network’s untethering from Lionsgate as another culprit behind these faltering figures.
A Storied, Yet Contentious History
This goodbye marks the culmination of 50 Cent’s rollercoaster relationship with Starz. He has penned and brought to life successful franchise series like Power and BMF under their banner, yet has also been quite vocal about various grievances, ranging from scheduling mishaps to renewal hesitations. In a particularly candid moment, the rapper once lamented his choice to build his television empire at Starz, expressing regret at collaborating with the “wrong people.”
New Horizons With Fox
Yet, where one door closes, another opens. 50 Cent has set his sights on new horizons with a recent non-exclusive deal signed with Fox. With plans to expand G-Unit Film & Television content across multiple series at Fox, this move signifies not just the end with Starz but a fresh beginning. This decision comes as 50 aims to broaden his content’s reach in both broadcast and streaming avenues.
In a press statement, 50 Cent conveyed optimism regarding this new chapter, indicating that his creative journey is far from complete. As he parts ways with Starz, it seems the rapper already has his sights set firmly on future successes.
